Ruby Shields is the founder and creative force behind Studio Shields, a Naarm/Melbourne-based interior design and decoration house known for colour-drenched, materially rich environments that feel ingrained rather than applied. Her work is guided by the belief that interiors should be cultivated over time, layered through craft, collaboration and lived experience.With a background in visual storytelling and a deep respect for Australian makers, Ruby balances sculptural form with emotional resonance. Custom joinery, rich materials and commissioned artworks sit alongside found pieces, creating spaces that feel composed yet deeply human. Her own home, The View, recently featured in Vogue Living, embodies this ethos: a seven-year act of custodianship shaped by colour as architecture and Australian craft. More manifesto than showcase, it reflects a practice grounded in rigour and emotional depth. Ruby is a recipient of the Dulux 37th Colour Award (Student Category), a two-time finalist in the 38th Awards, commended DIA Graduate of the Year, and recipient of adr 30 Under 30 in 2023.Ruby approaches each project as an immersive narrative, creating spaces that are bold, personal and unmistakably individual. |
