A truly beautiful rug can act as the modern-day hearth around which a room revolves. Whether it provides a splash of vibrant colour, or a muted note of elegance, the right rug can help transform a house into a home.
We’re delighted that Winton House will be bringing their stunning collection of Dash & Albert rugs to the Decor + Design show this year!
In the lead-up to the show in July, we talked to Winton House founder Sarah Price to find out more about her inspirations, Dash & Albert’s sustainable approach and what visitors can expect at the show.
Sarah, can you tell us what inspired you to establish Winton House and bring the Dash & Albert collections to Australia?
Winton House was founded after living in the United States for 10 years and lusting after products I couldn’t find here in Australia. At the time of our return, rug and flooring options felt very limited, so bringing Dash & Albert Rugs to Australia became the main focus of Winton House.
In the early years people would say our style was American, but the Dash & Albert Rug brand has grown to be all encompassing in its offering, with each and every pattern speaking for itself and its style as individual as the purchaser.
How does that fit with Australian style? Would you say there is a typical ‘Dash & Albert’ home?
I think Australians are becoming more individual in their style and draw on overseas influences via various social media, television and travel. I think this is a great thing! So no, there is not a typical Dash & Albert home because our rug offering is so extensive and diverse, it easily leads itself to any number of decorating styles!
There are some beautiful pieces in the current range. Do you have any particular favourites?
Living with rugs you love is easy, I think if I had every rug I loved in our home it would be like living in an Aladdin’s cave!
There are a number of new releases I feel that are real standouts in the current Dash & Albert range and all for different reasons, whether material, design or price-point, a feeling of edginess, luxe or homeliness. There’s ‘Karari’, a woollen hooked rug, ‘Pali’, a woven jute and ‘Geneva’, a cotton viscose blend.
Plus, there’s a collection of new cottons that are so incredibly Hamptons chic they’ll have everyone swooning!
Sustainability and an ethical approach to design have become increasingly important to consumers in recent years. Can you tell us about the Dash & Albert process?
When you choose a Dash & Albert rug, you tick the boxes of quality, design, price and most importantly conscience, as all our rugs are ethically sourced and produced as part of our commitment to responsible practices globally.
We’re dedicated to opportunities for all employees, excellent working conditions and remuneration for each and every skilled artisan who brings our designs to life, ensuring the utmost respect for everyone who works on Dash & Albert creations.
Dash & Albert work with small family weaving businesses, ensuring every single Dash & Albert rug is constructed with eye catching detail. They often use unique weaves, exclusive to the region they are produced in, inspired by natural beauty with functional durability in mind.
Finally, we’re very excited that you will be exhibiting at Decor + Design 2018! Can you give visitors a sneak peek at what they can expect to see?
We are seeing a trend of black, paired with neutrals across all materials and styles of rugs, along with the introduction of stunning designs in blues and greys.
With Dash & Albert introducing a minimum of 70 new rugs into their seasonal collections each year, this allows them to interweave on-trend elements with classic designs, always ensuring they meet the design industry’s desire for fresh flooring solutions.
