Bandhini Design House are BACK! The stylish design house will once again be showcasing their latest collections at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, 18 – 21 July.
Bandhini have been busy since we last saw them in Melbourne, launching a new website and also celebrating their 25th birthday! They are planning festivities later in the year to mark this seriously impressive milestone.
With Decor + Design just around the corner, we asked the Bandhini team to give us the inside track on what they’ve been up to…plus what they will be wowing visitors with at the show…
First off, what have the highlights been of the last year since for Bandhini?
Styling Olivia Newton John’s home for sale in Byron Bay! Our founder Tai has worked many years with Olivia and Gregg Cave on the interiors of Gaia and it was wonderful to be a part of the styling for sale.
We have also been working with beautiful commercial clients like Gaia Health Retreat and Spa, the Reef House in Palm Cove and Kokomo in Fiji.
We have also been styling for major luxury yachts this year which has been amazing. They travel all over the world and are a dream to style.
The theme of the Australian House & Garden International Seminar Series at Decor + Design in 2019 is ‘Global Village’. How much attention do the Bandhini team pay to global trends?
We implement the idea of a ‘Global Village’ in nearly all of our design work!
We draw so much inspiration from global trends but not necessarily ‘current’ global trends. Our whole company ethos is based on ancient and original design and adapting that to a modern audience.
We believe in different generations of designs…in that one generation’s ideas and designs give birth to the next generation’s design. Our designs are classic and never ‘trendy’ as they are rooted in generations of development. We believe this shines through in much of our work.
Can you give us a snapshot of the design and production process for your team?
Our process begins with inspiration from culture and nature.
It is conceptualised in our main office here in the Tallebudgera Valley on the Gold Coast. Everything is based on original designs and original thoughts beautifully translated and crafted by our production unit and design gallery in India.
Our designs are always produced in small batches, never mass produced. Careful consideration goes into every detail as each cushion, textile, artwork, etc. is handcrafted by our artisan partners. We believe in and implement thoughtful design that doesn’t hurt the environment.
What keeps you coming back to exhibit at Decor + Design?
We find that Decor + Design has a great targeted audience for us. Genuine designers, architects and developers, rather than gift fair buyers. Because we are a boutique company it is our one annual platform for exposure and a wonderful time to catch up with our designer friends and clients and our other trade fair exhibitor friends too. D+D is always a great experience!
Bandhini Design will once again be a much-anticipated exhibitor at Decor + Design in Melbourne, July 18 – 21. What can trade visitors expect to see from you this year?
Our new collection has a distinctive country, urban, and coastal looks focusing on the tropical aspects of these three looks. Lots of texture, unexpected details and elements, and splashes of blush and sage- colours not explored by Bandhini for many years. We are finally bringing them back.
You can also expect more amazing original artworks. You’ll find Bandhini textile artworks as well as Zoe Bios Creative works – a funky group of artists out of LA, headed by Mihn Nguyen (the previous director of Natural Curiosities,) and Caitlin Dinkins.
Zoe Bios Creative use the term “Art Entoure” to express the concept of a full-circle approach to the cross-pollination of the art world with the design world. It celebrates the infinite variety of our environments and is rooted in creativity, global connectedness, and artful living.” (Zoe Bios Creative)
We look forward to seeing everyone at the show!
