FLORIAN LIGHT - ITALSTYLE

Florian Light – Italstyle

Can you tell us a little bit more about the origins of Italstyle? How did it become established in Australia?

As an artist & designer back in Italy, I always had an abiding passion for beautiful Italian Design. These combined influences laid the groundwork for what would become Italstyle’s distinctive style. Since our modest beginnings in 1974, we have established and maintained a reputation for quality lighting within the industry. From supplying many retail stores in the earlier years – like Myer/Grace Bros, Kmart & Target – we had a change of direction in the mid ’90s to where we are now.  With the brands and products, we have at our disposal, our focus shifted to deliver innovative, imaginative and above all functional lighting to the Architectural market.

Why is lighting so important in a home?

Good lighting can flatter a modest environment just as bad lighting can ruin a luxurious one. Lighting is the most essential element in the decoration of a home. Lighting illuminates treasured objects; it highlights favourite colours. It also impacts our mood, performance and mental health on a daily basis.

You consult to architectural firms and designers on lighting solutions for homes. What’s involved in this process?

It varies from project to project and at what stage we become involved. It can be from product specification for a particular area to a complete lighting design package. Ideally it is always best to be involved from the start which helps us understand the clients/architects brief and outlines any budget constraints which can incur.

Do you have any particularly special projects that you’ve worked on?

We have worked on many special projects over the years. Some that spring to mind are Sydney School of Arts, Radisson Adelaide & most recently the Plaza Tavern in Werribee. On these particular projects we were involved from the start, had a thorough understanding of the brief and delivered a lighting design package with great results. As a market leader we have had the opportunity to work with and light up many celebrity homes which is always very satisfying!

DE MAJO

De Majo Light, Italstyle

You carry premium Italian lighting brands. I know it is hard to play favourites but do you have one or two that you particularly love (and why)?

Linea Light Group for its wide range of products from decorative to architectural and the most advanced LED lighting solutions. They work with leading Italian designers and are constantly evolving in response to market trends. Another favourite of mine is De Majo Illuminazione which is one of the oldest Murano Glass manufactures in Italy. Today this company maintains the early Murano traditions and at the same time strives for new style appeal offering customers a wide selection of current designs trends for who with a taste for the contemporary appreciates authentic quality and elegance.
