Sydney-based stylist Steve Cordony casts a long shadow across the Australian design industry. The ‘Style Director At-large’ for Belle magazine is renowned for his glamorous, polished interiors, which don’t sacrifice charm and comfort at the altar of sophistication.

Steve has created stunning work for both personal and corporate clients, and is also one of Australia’s leading social and digital interior influencers.

We’re delighted that Steve will be speaking as part of the Australian House & Garden International Seminar Series at the 2019 Decor + Design show, peeling back the stylish layers of some of his recent projects. In the lead up to the big event, we sat down with Steve to uncover some of his favourite things…

How would you define your own design style/aesthetic?

My style is a duality of classic and contemporary. I love mixing traditional European styles and vintage shapes with new and contemporary pieces and also working them in new and interesting ways. My design aesthetic is strong, theatrical and glam.

You’ve worked all over the world. Who are your favourite interior designers?

There are so many, but my constant sources of inspiration are Joseph Dirand, Christina Cole, Rosie Seabrook, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Jean Louis Deniot.

What’s the most-read book on your shelf?

Most of my books are pretty picture books but I love flipping through Stonefields by Paul Bangay, Simplicity by Nancy Braithwait and Flower Addict by Grandiflora.

If pressed, what piece of your furniture or home would define you?

Anything by Gio Ponti. Or a Louis XVI style armchair that has been ebonised and re-upholstered in glazed Belgium linen!

If you could live in anyone’s house, whose would it be?

Kelly Wearstlers’ Beverly Hills home. Beyond. Or any of Oprah’s homes.

You’ll be speaking at the 2019 Decor + Design in July this year. What else is in on the agenda for you in 2019?

Travelling to Milan for Salone, European Summer for my inspiration fix and visiting the Chelsea flower show. Finishing the renovation at Rosedale Farm and launching 2 projects/products.
