Legendary Australian textiles house Warwick Fabrics will be exhibiting for the first time at Decor + Design in 2019…and we couldn’t be more excited!

Warwick are renowned for their commitment to exceptional quality and position at the leading edge of fashion trends. Their textiles continually inspire interior designers to redefine their interior landscapes.

Luciana Wallis, Warwick Fabrics’ Design Manager, will also be speaking with Tigger Hall as part of the Australian House & Garden International Seminar Series at Decor + Design, on Friday 19th July.

The talented duo will be unpicking the fascinating stories behind beautiful fabrics, in conversation with Tanya Buchanan, Editor-in-Chief of AH&G. They will explore Australian innovation, design inspiration, fabric trends and product development. An unmissable session for any lover of incredible textiles!

Luciana has a deeply-entrenched love for local talent and brands, and has also founded ‘Lilt Blog’, a website dedicated to Australian fashion, art and design.

With Decor + Design imminent, we asked Luciana some questions to peel back the layers of her own style inspirations…plus nabbed an exciting preview of what Warwick Fabrics will be showing at Decor + Design!

Luciana, how would you define your own design style/aesthetic?

My aesthetic is fairly classic, but layered with touches of texture & pattern that add my own personal flair.

I am mad about colour and intrigued by how it affects us when we wear it & when we are surrounded by it. So bold colour is a big part of my aesthetic (despite being a Melbournian)!

I think because I work in design I find it hard to exactly pinpoint my style, as it is constantly evolving.

So many different eras and design movements inspire me, so I take inspiration from everywhere – local designers & makers, vintage shops, travelling, and then mix and match them together for my own unique style.

Who are your own favourite textile designers?

I admire Shelley Steer as a print textile designer and illustrator. Her designs always have an incredible amount of detail, and clever use of colour and positive/negative space, which make them artworks in themselves.

In terms of texture and tactility I am also constantly inspired by the colourful and frivolous designs of Elise Cakebread. Her pieces are both a visual and tactile feast and I love the way she mixes specialty yarns and fibres in varied weights and thickness to add texture and interest.

What’s the most-read book on your shelf?

Textile Designs: 200 years of European and American Patterns by Susan Meller & Joost Elffer is the ultimate textile design encyclopaedia. I purchased it way back when studying at RMIT and still use it to this day to reference historical eras, techniques and design elements.

I also love reading everything and anything to do with colour, and am currently enjoying The Secret Lives of Colour by Kassia St Clair, which tells some unusual and interesting stories about 75 shades of colour through examples witnessed in history & current culture.

If pressed, what piece of your own furniture or homewares would define you?

A vintage 1960’s Danish style radiogram, which my husband and I inherited from his grandmother.  Not only does it have a sentimental value, but I also have a great love for music and mid-century design. The fact that this piece marries two of my passions makes it a very special piece for me.

If you could live in anyone’s house, whose would it be?

I could quite happily live in any house designed by Flack Studio! I adore their use of bold colour, materials and finishes.

I may not be able to live in such an eclectic space, but a visit to Iris Apfel’s home would be an incredible adventure. I can’t even imagine the treasure trove of textiles, and design inspirations you would encounter.

You’ll be speaking at the 2019 Decor + Design show in July this year, in conversation with Tigger Hall of Tigger Hall Design. What will you be discussing?

I am looking forward to speaking at the Seminar Series this year and will be discussing Warwick Fabrics’ product development process & how we work with our suppliers to create our latest collections, as well as an insight into some of our exciting new brands, designs & trend directions.

Warwick Fabrics will also be exhibiting at Decor + Design this year, which is very exciting. What can visitors expect to see?

This is Warwick Fabrics first year at Decor + Design and we will be exhibiting the latest fabrics and homewares we have on offer. Our stand has been divided into three sections, each displaying a different area of our textile business.

WARWICK will be bringing our latest release of patterned and plain fabrics for upholstery and drapery in a collection of qualities including some of our favourite and timeless classics.

LINIA, our new and exclusive brand will be on parade for the first time. Launched in Feb 2019, this brand brings together a range of the world’s finest fibres sourced from mills across the globe. Boasting effortless style and sophistication in a selection of organic colours, textures and finishes.
